As with much of my video and installation work, "The Tragedy Collection" is about destruction and manipulation. In this instance, the pixelation of an already distorted view. The freezing in time of beauty, caught at an awkward moment stolen out of context only to be reinterpreted on a large scale for amusement of the detached.

description:
A site specific installation incorporating five Minolta Microfiche devices, downloaded low-res JPEG images printed on paper, several clothing hangers on a rack, a feather duster, and a stairwell in a training facility in suburban Chicago in November 2007.

Like pitiful, sad people in a rest home the machines sit hidden away rejected and ignored. The installation is a metaphor for self absorption, the audience has a gutteral feeling of pity and distaste, afraid of being noticed, touched or spoken to not wanting to be involved.

In discovering these sad old machines stored away from view, feelings of being forgotten and discarded lead to a desire to evoke expression on those viewscreens that resemble a kind of robot-face. But it is all a ruse, the artist again up to the old manipulation trick assigning emotion to inanimate objects in provocation of the crowd.

Dejected mug-shot faces are chosen for their unpleasant qualities, enlarged and pixilated to exacerbate that face and match the "personality" of each particular machine. Cave dwellers discovered.

description:
A type of transformative mediation with pulsing pixels which saturate and evolve into forms that appear and change. Corner of the eye movementcorresponds to walking past street lamps or riding an underground train. A purposely blurred view of passing landscapes translates a secret communique or coded transmission. A phonetic algorithm building a substrate foundation that demonstrates and lowers, evaporating directly in front of the viewer. The pieces meant to be shown large scale to create drama. Watching overhead lulling the entire city to sleep, lights shutting off, things being put away to the sounds of nighttime.

3 channel video interpolation utilizing analog videogenerators. Video image processors are fed through onto digital tape. Further altering through double frame-rate speed manipulation occurs creating a real time slow motion effect that evolves slowly through a growth phase.

description:
Sampled feedback from video source digitally manipulated by HD artifaction. Variable installations are meant to bewilder and confused the audience.

  1. Playing intermittently a pattern seems to form. An almost hypnotic series of sounds are emitted in time to texture and light on a scale which covers an entire wall of the gallery.
  2. The room seems empty but for a faint calling alarm resembling a communication or SOS. The viewer is signaled to search out the source, and upon it's discovery hits upon a miniscule video, the origin of the call.
